My student teaching placement was at Cardinal Heights Upper Middle School in the Sun Prairie Area School
"She hasn't been here for too long but she fits right in and is a great teacher and always knows how to make a student's day. She is so caring and she makes learning fun. She always wants you to succeed and that is why I think I like her so much because not many other teachers want that, or show that, like she does."

With Jim Laszewski I worked in a 9th grade World History classroom where I taught three classes of Regular World History and two classes of Honors World History. The World History Department collaborates frequently and follows an aligned curriculum designed by the department. The curriculum ties back to eight general themes of world history.
District, a suburban district near Madison, WI. Cardinal Heights Upper Middle School includes grades 8 and 9, and runs on a regular class schedule with 48 minute classes. The two grades are divided into five houses each, and each house has a group of core content teachers which teach all the students in their house. I worked with two teachers - James Laszewski for World History and Sam Burns for ESL. (Click HERE for their recommendations.)

As a student teacher during the second semester, I was able to teach and collaborate for six units: Industrial Revolution, Age of Imperialism, WWI, Russian Revolution, WWII, and Contemporary Issues. I mostly observed for the Industrial Revolution Unit, co-taught for Age of Imperialism and WWI, and lead taught Russian Revolution, WWII, and Contemporary Issues. For the beginning of April to the end of the school year I was planning, teaching, and grading for all five classes.
Throughout the semester I collected artifacts pertaining to all 10 standards. To see these artifacts click on InTASC/Wisconsin Educator Standards.
"Usually student teachers kind of suck, but you proved that to be wrong! Sometimes I forget you aren't my actual teacher. Keep up awesome. I love coming to Honors History every day"

As part of my role as an instructor for D House at Cardinal Heights Upper Middle School, I also collaborated with other core
content teachers, especially for house activities and field trips. As part of the biology curriculum for 9th grade, the students were able to go to the Milwaukee Zoo to observe animals for a project, which is a field trip I chaperoned and attended meetings to plan logistics. I also collaborated in "house time" activities, where students have time in the day with house teachers due to irregular scheduled (caused by standardized testing). For this semester we planned a house lesson on climate change where students picked a region in the United States and learned about climate change in that region. Students then came together to create visuals for each part of the country, and these were then posted on the house board in the hallway.
With Sam Burns I supported a biology class throughout the semester, where I worked with three ELL students. One was a Spanish speaker, and two were Hmong speakers. I provided ELL support in working one on one with students and providing language modifications to classroom materials and assessments. To see artifacts from my ESL work click on ESL Standards.
