Wisconsin Educator Standards for Teachers
InTASC MODEL STANDARDS
Standard #3: Learning Environments
The teacher works with others to create environments that support individual and collaborative learning, and that encourage positive social interaction, active engagement in learning, and self -motivation.
Standard #5 addresses my ability to manage a classroom, knowing how to create a positive classroom environment. This standard includes classroom logistics and organization, behavior management, culturally responsive practices, individual and group work, etc. Below you will find classroom management comments from my cooperating teacher from student teaching, my reflections on creating a culturally responsive classroom, and a lesson which uses engagement strategies.
Artifact 1: Screenshot of WWI Propaganda Lesson Pear Deck Session
This artifact is a screenshot from a classroom Pear Deck session during a WWI Propaganda lesson. Students log in to Pear Deck (an online discussion and presentation tool), and after the teacher asks a question the students can type responses that show up on the SmartBoard. Responses are anonymous when shown on the Smartboard, but I can see which student has typed which response on my laptop screen. This screenshot demonstrates my ability to incorporate technology tools in the classroom, especially those tools that help students communicate their ideas with other students and the teacher. Students are able to share their thinking without fear and I am able to check for understanding and language by viewing which student posted which response on my screen.
Artifact 2: James Laszewski Classroom Management Comments (Attached Below)
This artifact contains comments from my cooperating teacher for world history during my student teaching semester. His comments were written towards the end of the semester of my student teaching.
Artifact 3: Culturally Responsive Class Reflections (Attached Below)
This is a reflection paper I wrote in my first class during my course sequence. Reading it now almost a year later at the end of my student teaching I see that my reflections have not changed in my opinions of creating a culturally responsive, inclusive classroom. If anything has changed, it is that I have more strategies to work with and am aware that I can always research more.
Artifact 4: WWI Propaganda Pear Deck Lesson (Attached Below)
This is a lesson plan from my student teaching experience which uses technology as a tool to aid instruction and class collaboration. In the lesson students answer questions about propaganda posters from WWI on Pear Deck, which is an interactive discussion tool where students can share answers with the class anonymously while I can see who posted which response on my laptop screen. Students can share their thoughts without fear, and at the same time I can gauge student progress with language and understanding.
