Neighborhood Crime Watch (NCW) is...
a citizen involvement program, where citizens, in cooperation with the Leon County Sheriff’s Office, directly participate in the detection and prevention of crime in their neighborhood. It involves getting to know one’s neighbors and introducing them to the concept of Neighborhood Watch. It will enhance neighborhood security, heighten the community’s power of observation and encourage mutual assistance and concern among neighbors.
Without a Crime Watch program, very few homeowners are in a position to protect their homes and property from crime 100% of the time. Vacations, business and shopping trips or even an evening out, leave homes unattended and vulnerable to theft. One important criterion to ensure a well-maintained and effective Crime Watch program is to have active participation by the majority of a neighborhood to make up for those times when neighbors are away from home.
Since September 11, 2001, Neighborhood Crime Watch programs have taken on an important new priority. Citizens involved in Neighborhood Crime Watch programs are being asked to assist law enforcement in assuring the security of our homeland, a natural extension of the Crime Watch program that will help secure our nation against terrorist attacks.
Crime Watch trained citizens provide valuable information to law enforcement which not only helps ensure more effective law enforcement and crime prevention, but makes the neighborhood, the community, and the homeland a safer place to live.
Neighborhood Crime Watch is NOT…
a group of vigilantes or people taking the law into their own hands. Crime Watch training does not give people the authority to take law enforcement action such as pursuing or apprehending criminals, conducting investigations, or in any way taking the place of law enforcement officers.

Woodrun Neighborhood Crime Watch (WNCW)
As part of its reorganization, the Woodrun Neighborhood Association adopted as one of its primary purposes: Sponsoring and supporting activities that contribute to the safety of homeowners and residents, and the protection of people and property from crime.
In the summer of 2014, following a rash of neighborhood residential burglaries, the Board of Directors resolved to organize and support a Sheriff’s sanctioned Neighborhood Crime Watch program. The Sheriff’s office has assigned a Crime Prevention Liaison Deputy to coordinate education, training, and communication; the association has appointed a Watch Chairperson and is recruiting block captains to coordinate communication throughout the neighborhood. At our kickoff meeting in September, nearly 70 neighbors came together to take the first step of organizing our neighborhood watch program.
Since then, we have hosted semi-annual meetings in the Spring and Fall to continually recruit interested neighbors, to keep all neighbors informed of the latest incidents in the neighborhood, and to provide timely education, training and information about crime trends and seasonal safety tips. We'll send quarterly updates in-between the meetings.
