Text-to-speech devices are designed for use by individuals with speech or communication disabilities. They may also be used by persons with cognitive, writing, or physical disabilities. Typically, the user will type a message on the device's keyboard and the device's text-to-speech software will read the message out loud using synthesized speech. The device may also display the message on a visual display.  Devices will vary in size, storage/memory capacity, and additional features. Some of these devices may also be used as an alternative computer, word processor, or notetaker as well.
