Static Display
Static display communicators are designed for use by individuals with communication, speech, or cognitive disabilities. The devices include tags or overlays that can include letters, words/phrases, or pictures. When the tag/overlay is placed on the device, each image corresponds with a button, which plays a pre-programmed or user-recorded message when activated. Some devices offer different "levels" of speech, meaning that different overlays can be placed on the device to provide expanded or more complex vocabulary options. Devices with multiple overlays provide the option of multiple level The displays are "static" because the overlays do not change, or must be manually changed. Message buttons cam be activated by direct touch, switches, or visual or auditory scanning of the message options.
