Sumo wrestling can be for anyone - that is if you use a robot to do it!
This challenge never fails to motivate students to use all the facets of STEM! After all who wants to be pushed out of the ring? Nobody - so students continually use their scientific skills to code their robot, test and review their approach.
The challenge involves using the Edison Robot, programming it using the free online edscratchapp.com
The Science includes the external forces, sensors and experimentation
The Technology is the robot and the coding language.
The Engineering is to rebuild the robot using beams and pins and gears and other components to protect your robot and turn it into a beast!!
The Mathematics is how far, how long, how fast, what angle?
Participants will use be taught how to use coding to use the light sensor on Edison robot to avoid being pushed out of the ring. They will then learn to use the object sensors on the robot to seek out and charge their opponents' robots.
Once you have mastered the coding you will have the opportunity to use Lego Technics and similar components to build protection around you robot and improve your chances to defeat your opponents.
