IT Support and Technical Stuff
This page is aimed at the staff who will be "maintaining" the Edisons for the school. This includes IT with "firewalls" as well as people looking after the charging of batteries.
AAA Batteries
The Edison runs on 4 AAA batteries. I have been using several types of rechargeable batteries. Robots will generally run for up to 6 hours on a set of rechargeable batteries. If a robot starts doing some "random" things, this is generally an indication that the batteries need replacing.
KOGAN: These batteries have been very reliable. I have had maybe 2 fail out of many hundreds. Their normal price is $15 for an 8 pack. (800mAh)
ALDI: Sell these in packs of 4 for $5.99. Have been very reliable batteries. Most stores don't carry large numbers of packs.
Online: You can purchase AAA batteries online. The ones I purchased were very cheap and worked well with the Edisons. The problem I had was that even when new, some had oxidisation on them which stopped them from recharging properly and not working in the Edison. Excellent value for money but you may have a 5% failure rate. (1000mAh)
Firewalls:
As all programming languages used with the Edisons are now purely internet based, it is important that your IT support teams, generally at head offices, are clear on which websites need to be "whitelisted".
The easiest way to do this is by visiting the Help link contained in the Menu of each of the Edison programming apps.
