Merit Award Application Instructions

SPOTLIGHT CIRCLE

FALL 2025 MERIT AWARDS

INSTRUCTIONS

                To be considered for this award, please submit an email application  which includes the following information:

1)    Name, student number, mailing address, email address, and current telephone number

2)    Number of semesters in the MiraCosta Theatre Program to date

             (including the  current semester)

3) Estimated number of hours volunteered at MiraCosta Theatre in the past two semesters.

IMPORTANT - PLEASE TAKE NOTE - This section is for your volunteer efforts (outside of class or production requirements) to support the Theatre.  Examples include: ushering at a show, participating in Backstage Players projects, and other extra efforts - like helping with set construction, wardrobe, etc. - Times when you have gone "above and beyond the call of duty" and done things that weren't expected or required of you. 

DO NOT include time spent as an actor or working in the crew of a show here. Those experiences are listed in the NEXT section.}

Please use the following table format for this item:

4)    In resume format, list:    (See sample application for example)

                            * Coursework in MiraCosta Theatre Program to date

                            * Planned theatre coursework during your next semester

                                    at MiraCosta College 

                            * Theatre productions in which you have officially participated,

                                    either onstage or backstage, at MiraCosta

                            *Any other post - high school theatre experience outside of MiraCosta

5)     Give an estimate of the average number of hours per week you have worked at an outside job during the past two semesters

6)    Describe your future educational and career goals

7)    Why you feel that your efforts at MiraCosta Theatre make you deserving of receiving a Merit Award. (Not why you need the money)

           TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR CONSIDERATION FOR THIS AWARD, YOU MUST SUBMIT:

1) An application in the form of a Microsoft Word document attached to an email; and

2) A JPEG portrait of yourself (minimum 200 dpi) for use in a slide show display of Merit Award winners, should you be selected.

PLEASE NOTE: THESE MERIT AWARDS ARE BASED UPON STUDENT EXPERIENCE, CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE THEATRE PROGRAM, AND A SERIOUS COMMITMENT TO THE PERFORMING ARTS, AS JUDGED BY THE SPOTLIGHT CIRCLE BOARD.  FINANCIAL NEED IS NO LONGER A CONSIDERATION  FOR THESE AWARDS

(We strongly recommend that you send your application in at least a day before the deadline in order to be sure that your submission is not disqualified due to delays in internet transmissions, as has happened in the past.)
