When looking at the ISTE (International Society for Technology in Education) website, there are several things that are very interesting. I have been looking and trying to keep up with this website for several years now, and it is always changing. The school district that I work for was part of a grant and project about 7 years ago that was highly focused on items contained in the ISTE website. From this work I have been aware of trying to integrate the NETS into our entire districts curriculum for many years.
I think that all of the information is very helpful and insightful anyone dealing with technology. I particularly love the fact that they focus not only on the NETS for students, but also include separate categories for teachers, administrators, and technology facilitators & leaders. Most of us realize that what is expected out of one of these group is very different than another, but not everyone realizes this. The NETS for Students I have found very helpful in allowing all of our teachers to realize what their students should be learning and doing when it comes to technology. The district has invested in some of the books that they have on their website to give teachers additional ideas on what they can do with their students in their classrooms to help integrate the NETS and technology more into their rooms without having to totally reinvent what they are doing with the kids to begin with.
Other great resources for Business Teachers are NBEA (National Business Education Association) and IBEA (Illinois Business Education Association). I must admit not all information is available on their websites for non-members, but they are a great resource as to what other districts are doing within the Business curriculum, what as a group they believe we should be doing, and ideas and advice on what to do, what we should do, and just almost anything you could think of.
