Auburn Community Unit School District #10, Auburn, Illinois
I have been teaching at Auburn since the 2000 school year. I am one of the two business teachers within our district. When I began, I was teaching Computer Applications courses all day, now my workload has changed. The courses have also changed. We have added several courses and dropped several courses. We have removed Keyboarding I, Keyboarding II, and Office Practices from our curriculum. We have added Graphic Design, Desktop Publishing, Accounting II, Business Law, Sports and Entertainment Marketing, and Freshman Seminar to our course offerings.
Over the years, I have been a member of the Student Assistance Program team. In SAP, we look at students that are having issues that are affecting their grades. We work on trying to figure out what is going on in these students’ lives that are affecting their education. We then look at what we can do to help the student’s improve their grades and entire high school experience. It is very rewarding to see the changes in the students when our plans work.
I have also helped over the years with our School Improvement Plan, School-To-Work Committee/Education-To-Careers Committee, Student Handbook Committee, Calendar Committee and been on the Insurance Committee. I have also worked on several different grants bringing in several thousands of dollars into the district for more technology equipment.
