Development of a Digital Portfolio System for Preservice Teachers
Pardieck and McMullen created this report based upon the development of a digital portfolio evaluation system for preservice teachers. They wanted to know how well a digital portfolio would work for these teachers and how difficult or easy it would be to create one along with being easily accessible by others.
The concept of a portfolio is not a new concept at all. Preservice teachers have been creating portfolios for evaluation for many years. The change that was suggested and studies was creating an electronic portfolio that would be easily updated and have one format for all participants.
Several different setups were studied as to how easy they were to create along with updating. Also it was important that they could be opened by multiple people for easy viewing and evaluation of the teacher. This was one of their critical components.
Overall the study concluded that not only are portfolios still important and beneficial in the teacher education program, but also that the electronic ones do have merit. It was noted that the electronic versions still need to go through some refinement and problem-solving stages still. They do believe however that with more use that the process will become easier for all to use.
