My thoughts and beliefs about yearbooks. As you read this, you must keep in mind that I am a yearbook advisor and LOVE being a part of the yearbook creations process even though it may be very stressful at times.
Yearbook
“Yearbook” is a revolutionary breakthrough in technology. It has no wires or circuitry or switch on, and it is so simple and untrained person can operate it.
Compact and portable, it can be used anywhere, yet it is powerful enough to hold as much information as a CD-ROM.
It is based on an ingenious concept of suing sequentially numbered, viewable flat-panel interfaces called “pages.” Each “page” can hold thousands of bits of information, including words, pictures, and graphics, either in black-and-white or full-color.
The pages are held in a storage device called a “cover.” The cover itself consists of flat-panel interfaces that can hold not only viewable information, but also can support tactile-sensory feedback through technologies such as “embossing” and “graining.”
A special phenomenon, “opacity” allows information to be displayed on both sides of a page simultaneously, doubling the information density. Experts are divided on the prospects for further increased in information density; for now, yearbooks with more information simply use more pages.
A yearbook can be used at any time, and is activated merely by opening it. The user optically scans each page, instantly registering information directly to the brain. With just a flick of the finger, a user can move from one page to another.
All yearbooks come with a special browse feature that allows the user to move instantly to any page, either forward or backward as desired. Many yearbooks also include an index feature, which pinpoints the exact location of selected information for instant retrieval.
Yearbook pages can be made interact with the use of an optional programming device called a “personal encryption nib” (PEN). PENs are easy to use, require no instructions, are universally available, and cheap. With a PEN, a user can interact with one or many yearbook pages, either transforming and/or adding to the content of the page.
A yearbook never crashes or requires rebooting, though like other devices it can become damaged if a drink is spilled on it. Portable, durable, and affordable, the yearbook is being hailed as anew entertainment wave. Its appeal seems so certain that thousands of content creators (“advisors” and “staffers”) have committed to the platform. Expect of flood of new titles every year.
