An Instructional Designer uses an Alignment Chart (View in a separate window or see the insert below) to verify that proposed activities and assessments are aligned to their learning objectives.
Terminal Objectives are the top level goals of learning. Enabling Objectives are specific goals that, when achieved, support the assertion that higher level Terminal Objectives have been successfully learned.
Corresponding to the objectives are the Assessment Ideas. Assessment tasks should fit the enabling objectives.
After determining the Objectives and Assessments, it is time to create the Absorb, Do and Connect Activities. These activities should guide and inspire the leaner to pass the assessment.
Alignment Chart
An Alignment Chart allows us to organize and clearly see how our activities align with our overall Terminal Objectives and specifically how each set of activities address and support it’s corresponding Enabling Objective. The chart below covers Solution Entry Training for Knowledge Authors.
