TADIPATRI GURUKULA
By Smt.Meera Tadipatri
1. Kosha refers to Bhagavan.
2. It also refers to the jada layers of our body.
1. Any and every "name" belongs to Shri Hari only in the primary sense, thus "kosha", according to Chandogya Upanishad Bhashya means the "One who is full of Ananda, and free Will" [ ka = ananda, usha = ichha shakti].
In Him, everything is contained. This is too much for a mortal to comprehend and think, so the karunaamatya Bhagavan, with the name "Kosha" is present inside our body too [apart from being outside too] to help us to "see" Him, inside our own body. Thus, as long as our body is there, no matter where we are and how we are, we can think about this "kosha" namaka Bhagavan. Taitiriya Upanishad states that inside our deha He is present in His 5 rupas like Aniruddha, Pradyumna, Sankarshana, Vasudeva and Narayana. Thus He is called as "Pancha Kosha"
2. Inside us, this "kosha" namaka Bhagavan is present in the 5 "layers" of our own body, so these "layers" are also get the same name as "kosha". As they are 5 in numbers like Annamaya, Pranamaya, Manomaya, Vijnanamaya, and Anandamaya, thus they are called as "pancha kosha"
Here is a pictorial representation of what each "kosha" contain in our body:
