Speaking before the result was published on Monday night, Mr Turnbull told the ABC's 7.30 program that polling is a sensitive topic for politicians. "Nobody looks at opinion polls with more attention than politicians, but of course you've got to remember that a single poll is a snapshot in time," he said.
The Coalition's primary vote is up five points to 44 per cent, while the primary vote for Labor is down four to 35 per cent on the previous survey. The Greens' primary vote has dropped slightly to 11 per cent, while those in the "others" category remains unchanged at 10 per cent. The margin of error for the poll, which surveyed 1,645 voters, is 3 per cent.
Opposition Leader Bill Shorten's lead over Tony Abbott as preferred Prime Minister has evaporated, with 55 per cent of voters surveyed preferring Mr Turnbull in the top job.
The Labor leader now trails Mr Turnbull as preferred prime minister by 34 points.
