Voluntary Euthanasia
What is Voluntary Euthanasia?
Definition
Euthanasia /ˌjuːθəˈneɪzɪə/
It is believed that there are five [conditional] elements or indicators for a person to be assisted by voluntary euthanasia (Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy 2014). These indicators are that the person (1) is suffering from a terminal illness, (2) is unlikely to benefit from a cure discovered within that person’s life expectancy, (3) is suffering intolerable pain or has an unacceptably burdensome life because of illness, (4) has an enduring, competent and voluntary wish to die or has previously expressed that wish and finally, (5) is unable to end life without assistance.
