Assignment Summary
It taught me to use information from primary sources and digital collections to teach people and raise awareness about a subject area, perhaps one people were not aware of previously. Many people won’t review or access a digital collection on their own. So by providing a brochure and including a QR code we can provide that link to a digital collection.
I also learned ways to make library materials engaging and impactful. One of the collections I used is called “Before the Holocaust.” One of the pages had the line “It’s not your fault you are inferior.” I made that one of the main lines on the brochure knowing that would get people’s attention, so as to have them engage with the brochure in some capacity, even taking them out of their day for a few minutes.
My goal is to continue thinking of ways to highlight library collections, history, and other topics. I would also like to find ways to incorporate technology QR codes into brochures. I think that technology holds a lot of potential for engaging people in a meaningful way. Hopefully, it would spark their curiosity to do more research on these topics as well.
"Before the War", a database provided by the BBC, was the subject of my brochure. It covers the time between World War I and the beginning of the Holocaust. I used images, video, and testimony to paint a haunting portrait of the time before these atrocities occurred

I have enclosed a link to Holocaust Survivor's Testimonies. From the United States Holocaust Museum.
The Geisel Library's collection of Spanish Civil War Posters was the collection highlighted in my handout. The UCSD Library has one of the largest collections of items from the Spanish Civil War in the country. The striking and haunting images of propaganda bring the horrors of war to life
Fascist Poster from 1912
I have enclosed a link to the Spanish Civil War Project at UCSD. Which is comprised of interviews with people who witnessed the Spanish Civil War. My hope this will bring history to life and provide a human perspective on one of history’s atrocities. That it will be more than words on a page but an event that impacted people’s lives.
