I wrote and contributed to a blog with my classmates on Assistive Technology in Libraries.
(Assignment Summary)
This assignment helped me understand and develop my own perspective on relevant issues library’s experience while teaching me the skills to develop and implement solutions for the benefit of patrons. For example, one of the topics was the digital divide gap between senior patrons learning technology. By understanding this relevant issue, I can help serve this community and meet their needs in a library setting. I have experience from previous positions teaching seniors about technology.
I learned about the technology available and how it can improve the patron’s experience, which is essential for meeting patron’s needs and day to day library functions. I can pass on that knowledge in training or working one-on-one with an individual. This is important when working with patrons with disabilities who historically get overlooked and underserved. My goal is to learn more about technology and develop a manual or guide to how it can be utilized by patrons, that way they can understand what's available and how it can help them. Currently, I don’t believe many patrons are aware of these resources. As librarians, we can be that link between technology and positive library experience.
