I created this page as a place to save some writings by and about my late father. Although I have many folders of his sermons and notes, most of these are in his own handwriting or on type-written pages. I will attempt to either transcribe or scan some of the documents as I have time.
Dad rewrote his doctoral dissertation in 1982 as a regular published book called Counseling and Confession: The Role of Confession and Absolution in Pastoral Counseling. It was reprinted in 2011 and also translated into Spanish. This second edition has now sold out and another print run is in the works.
Walt attended Concordia College in Edmonton, Alberta, and received his B.A. from Concordia Senior College in Fort Wayne, Indiana in 1961. He did post-graduate work at Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, Missouri, receiving his M. Div. in 1965, his S.T.M. in 1966, and his Th. D. in 1978. Walt began his career in 1966 as the pastor of Peace Lutheran Church in Spruce Grove, Alberta. He was a professor at the Lutheran Theological Seminary in Saskatoon, Sask. from 1973-1988. During that time he was often called upon to be a guest lecturer or speaker at conferences. He briefly pastored at Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church in Saskatoon, Sask; at Trinity Lutheran Church in Wilkie, Sask; at St. John Lutheran Church in Warman, Sask and Peace Fellowship in Martensville, Sask. For several years Walt was the Chief Executive Officer for the Saskatchewan Association of Rehabilitation Centres. It was his privilege to be the pastor at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church in Swift Current, and Trinity Lutheran Church in Cadillac, Sask, for the past four years. Walt was a loving, gentle and generous husband, father, and grandfather, a man of patience and wisdom. He loved the foothills near his home town, horses, parties, carpentry work and gardening. Walt spent his life praising God by becoming a servant to others. He gained the confidence and co-operation of those around him and worked ceaselessly to bring healing to aching souls and impossible situations. He had a heart for evangelism and missions and was committed to the work of the Lutheran Church.
