Roads
Roadworks
For details of current and planned roadworks and road closures go to roadworks.org
This shows Temporary Traffic Regulation Orders (TTRO) which give authority to temporarily stop or limit vehicular and/or pedestrian traffic along the highway.
The roadworks can then take place within the period covered by the TTRO - not necessarily the whole period.
Reporting Potholes
Make sure you report potholes as soon as you see them.
If NCC or Highways England don't know about them, they can't repair them.

Report problems on all other adopted roads in Northumberland to NCC

0845 600 6400 [Monday to Thursday 8:30am-5pm and Friday 8:30am-4:30pm]
Once they are aware of a pothole, NCC inspect it and decide it's priority based on it's size, how busy the road is, the speed limit and where on the road it is.
They aim to make a temporary repair to the highest priority potholes (at least 40mm deep and 300mm across) within 24 hours.
Other potholes will be repaired within 14 or 28 days, depending on the associated risk to the road user.
Claiming for Pothole Damage
NCC are only potentially liable to pay for damage to vehicles or personal injury if they have been negligent.
They are not expected to keep roads free from potholes at all times.
If you do want to make a claim against NCC for damage to your car caused by a pothole, you have to claim in writing or by email.
See the 'What do I do if I believe I have suffered damage as a result of the negligence of the county council?' section on NCC's Insurance webpage.
You will be contacted by NCC's insurers, who will tell you if your claim has been successful or not.
While you may claim the cost of car repairs, you won’t necessarily be compensated for additional travel expenses or the inconvenience caused.
Other Issues with Roads
Go to NCC's Protecting roads, pavements & verges webpage to find out how to report general maintenance issues with the highways, including obstructions, broken pavements, road gully maintenance and drains.
