Samurais practiced many kinds of Bujutsu to fight for their lords.
Bujutsu can be literally translated into English as martial arts.
In other words, the arts of fighting.
After the Edo period, the samurai class was dissolved.
But Bujutsu has been handed down through generations.
Bujutsu that only teaches us how to fight does not have relevance in the modern society.
Bujutsu has been developed into Budo that helps us become better persons through rigorous practice.
Martial arts are therefore not the right words for Budo.
There are many kinds of Budo.
Judo, Kendo, Aikido, Karatedo...
