Haiku and the Beatles

John Lennon studied at an art college in Liverpool, and had an interest in Japanese art before he met Yoko Ono.

He mentioned that some of his songs were inspired by Haiku.

Haiku is a Japanese form of poetry that consists of 3 lines.

There may be some influence of Haiku in his songs like "Julia" and "Because".

(Paul McCartney hinted Yoko might have helped John write "Because".)

Tanka is a longer form of Haiku.

This was written by Kashitaro Ito, a samurai in the late Edo period, for a friend who had passed away.

This is one of my favorites.
