See vs. Meet

Common mistake:  I was happy to go back to school because I met my friends and teachers.

CORRECT:  I was happy to go back to school because I saw my friends and teachers again.

NOTES:

It's nice to meet you.  (first time)

It's nice to see you.    (when you see each other again)

I saw my friends.

Ho visto i miei amici.

I met my friends at the cinema.

Ho incontrato i miei amici al cinema.

***When SEE is used with "-ing", it means you have a meeting or an appointment;

I'm seeing my friends in town.  (I'm meeting my friends)

I'm seeing the doctor at 3pm.  (I have an appointment)

It can also mean you are dating someone: Bob and Mary have been seeing each other for five months.
