I especially love teaching Greek Folk dances.
I have danced since I was 6 years old. First there were ballet lessons, followed in my teen years Jazz Dance and Greek Folk Dance. I enjoyed it so much that I completed a Bachelor in Dance Education in Hamburg, Germany, with special emphasis on Ballet, Jazz Dance, Modern Dance, Improvisation, and Folk Dance. Folk Dance like from Germany, Greece, Macedonia, Bulgaria, Poland, Spain, Mexico, Spain, Italy and Russia. At that time, I was a member of two dance groups – A Greek Folk Dance group from Dimitris Barbarusis, and an Anatolian-Turkish Dance group from Abdurrahman Gülbeyaz in Hamburg.
Continuing, I studied Greek Folk Dance at Dora Stratou Theater in Athens [Greece], at Nelly Dimoglou Theater in Rhodes [Greece], and then with the dance group of G.K.Foiadis and Kyklos (Kyriakos Moisidis) in Thessaloniki [Greece]. I’ve also attended numerous workshops with famous Greek dance teachers like Kostas Fotiadis, Savvas Mavridis, Kyriakos Moisidis, Jiannis Amarantidis, Damianos Charalampidis, Petros Selkos and Nikos Zournatsidis in Germany or Greece. Since 1984, I have taught Greek Folk Dance classes and at weekend seminars in Germany and the U.S..
I love all the different kinds of Greek Folkdance rhythms. This leads me to select my dances to make a different to the western style music. I prefer to be as close as possible to the origin music as possible.
My background in health and physical therapy let me keep an eye on possible sensitive joints (like knee or back) or other issues my students might have while dancing. I am always alert to pain prevention, while providing a good workout for both body and brain.
