For the last decade I have conducted a number of college lesson studies in the UW System . These lesson studies were conducted with different broad objectives and were conducted in a diverse variety of lessons in subjects ranging from college algebra to mathematics. In all of the lesson studies the broad objective was achieved to quite a reasonable extent indicating that collaborative lesson planning can contribute to .
What is Lesson Study ?
In a lesson study project, teachers collaboratively design a lesson with a collection of broad objectives for the students that come alive during the lesson. One teacher would teach the Lesson while other collect data on student thinking and how they relate to the goals. After wards, the team meets again to debrief , redesign and teach the lesson again if necessary.
Originally developed in Japan , Lesson Study, both at school as well as college has gained significant popularity over the years and an excellent professional development mechanism for teachers.
