Mindful Kids programs offer a variety of class series for students of all ages and all levels of experience. The courses are designed for specific age groups based on stages of child or adolescent development, so students learn alongside their peers in meaningful and developmentally appropriate ways. Most courses are geared for all levels of experience (new and continuing students). Occasionally courses are offered for continuing students only and thus have a pre-requisite. Please do not hesitate to contact me at contemplative.ed@gmail.com if you have questions about the content being taught, whether a course would be a good fit for your child, or any other comments or concerns.
If you would like to receive email notifications of new classes or inquire about private sessions for your family, please send me a message at contemplative.ed@gmail.com.
This program is for elementary students in grades K-5 who have taken a Mindful Kids course in the past. We will explore previously learned mindful awareness techniques & apply them to fun springtime nature-based activities. This is a wonderful opportunity for kids to refresh & refine their skills in an engaging context among peers.
NOTE: This class has a prerequisite.
Students must be in grades 1-4 and have completed at least one series of Mindful Kids.
If you have any questions about your child's eligibility, please contact me at contemplative.ed@gmail.com

Last Child in the Woods: Saving Our Children from Nature-Deficit Disorder
Specially designed for students in grades 5-8, this series offers kids the basics of mindfulness through an engaging format that fosters community-building and an overall sense of well-being.Throughout the course, students will explore all of the essential elements of the acronym BREATHE:
Body & sensory awareness
Reflections (thoughts)
Emotions
Attention
Tenderness (kindness & compassion)
Healthy Habits of mind
Empowerment
Students this age are at a transition point between childhood and adolescence - they remain playful and curious yet their concerns around bigger issues begin to grow. Developmentally, they are navigating many changes happening within themselves as well as the external demands that are being placed upon them. By cultivating mindful awareness of these inner and outer experiences, students will learn to connect with their innate peaceful and compassionate nature while practicing techniques that pave the way for greater balance, resiliency, and emotional intelligence.
Central to this course is our focus on nurturing our authentic selves through exploratory exercises and deepening our appreciation for the unique gifts and qualities each of us brings to the world, while developing personal empowerment and our capacity for genuine lasting happiness. This course can be a game changer for entering into the soon-to-come middle school years! Space is limited.
"I really love what you are doing with the kiddos. I'd love for [my children] to take more classes with you." C.K., parent of Mindful Kids
"Our six year old absolutely loved this class. She is on the shy side and typically refuses to return to any class after the first day. What a surprise when she skipped out to announce that this was the BEST class she has ever tried. You and [your assistant] Meredith are loving guides into the world of mindfulness. What a gift. Thank you!" L.Z., parent of a Mindful Kids participant
"[Our child] has learned some very helpful ways of thinking about things and her choice of responses. As a family we have found the three gates framework and language very helpful." G.D., parent of a Mindful Kids participant
"[My child] was having a tough time calming down leading up to bedtime last night. We were about to do our usual routine of reading a book while sitting on her bed, when she abruptly got up and walked to the back of her closed bedroom door. She had earlier hung the card you had them make on the knob. I watched her stand in front of the card for about a minute, carefully breathing in and out. Then all at once, she made her way back to bed. I asked her if she felt better. She said 'yes' and then had one of the least fidgety readings we've had in a long time. Thank you!" Parent of a Mindful Kids participant
"[My child] was really upset about something and crying hard. She told [her sibling and me] to be quiet and she calmed herself down by breathing and internally soothing herself...I was very impressed. I attribute this to her coming to your class and having what I have said reinforced by someone other than me and the practice of it in a non-stressful situation, making it easier for her to reach for as a tool when life called for it. THANK YOU! This is a huge life learning for [my child]!" Parent of a Mindful Kids participant
