The Canons of Rhetoric are a system developed by the Roman Orator Cicero around 50 BCE. They provide a framework for developing and analyzing speeches. Regardless of when a text on public speaking was written they basically all use the same steps. We are still using the same advice from 2,000 years ago. In this unit I have adapted the canons to address the interests and concerns of students in the twenty-first century.
You have already become familiar with the Canons of Rhetoric but to recap they are: Invention, Arrangement, Style, Memory, and Delivery.
Sub-pages are presented in logical order in the left hand column (called the "sidebar").
