i'm happy to report a peaceful evening after hearing non-stop fireworks last night until 3, maybe 4.
tonight we made a cast-iron pizza and had it with salad.
Artemis [1] is engrossed in her book, titled pachinko;
i'm listening to nashville skyline;
it's been quiet enough, a good quiet before tomorrow, before we're both back to work.
...
technically, i was at work this week. it's that not much was going on, that she was taking her official vacation days, which means that i was working if i really, really felt like working.
i didn't; not in the sense of the work that is work lately.
last week we were away; i even put my once-a-year vacation responder on,
filtered only to email addresses within my home institution ..
[.. read: this committee isn't supposed to meet, isn't that what we agreed on?]
but for a week and a little more, we were surrounded by double-digit-numbers of acres of former farmland. that and quiet and stars in the sky, when it got dark enough in the evenings.
there was the morning or two that i sauntered down the hill and up another one, set up a lawn chair and took out my clipboard, wrote until i looked up, and when saw her waving i waved back.
i suppose it would be like how she wouldn't bat an eye if she were with a painter and he decided to pull out an easel and mix paints, as contrast to booking galleries, arguing with agents, showing up at other gallery openings ... the face-to-face immediate business.
so i ran after a lemma or two, didn't get the theorem i wanted;
it wasn't too bothered, because i wasn't expecting too much out of it.
this week was a week at home, doing things that we meant to do and things that just came up. i felt a little lazy ..
.. then again, vacations aren't meant to be busy, are they?
...
[1] for anonymity, i always use greek and roman mythology to refer to the people that are in my life.
