Hrym steers from the east, waters rise,
the mundane snake is coiled in jötun-rage.
The worm beats the water, and the eagle screams:
the pale of beak tears carcasses; Naglfar is loosed.
That ship fares from the east:
come will Muspell's people o'er the sea, and Loki steers.
The monster's kin goes all with the wolf;
with them the brother of Byleist on their course.
[Wondrous Item]
This Snekkja appears dilapidated, and should not be able to float, yet it moves with grace and speed. It is manned by 41 souls, all who have been willingly sacrificed with the promise of going to Valhalla. They row tirelessly, day and night, and will even portage the ship over land if necessary. They promise one year of service to the ship. After that year is up, they refuse to work until their is another sacrifice. Then, that soul takes his place among the crew as the captain, and the crew member who has served the longest goes on to Valhalla to serve Odin in Ragnarok. In this way, the entire crew is eventually rotated out.
The ghost crew does not fight for those who own the ship, promising only to serve. The ship itself appears to be largely immune to damage, perhaps even to the flows of the Élivágar, the rivers that existed before the world. It is rumored because it is fated to be at Ragnarok, carrying Hyrm and Loki to meet at the final battle.
