I have an affinity for and experience in medical and health-care associations and environments. It's the sense of purpose and the collaboration with an ultimate goal of affecting patients that appeal to me. From my first stint in graduate school, when I received a Medical Library Association scholarship while taking a medical reference course, to business school projects chosen to regain exposure, this work has appealed to me. In fact, I was invited to be the first "outcome" of the Meharry-Vanderbilt Alliance.
To encapsulate how I have been involved, I:
- Took courses on healthcare marketing and policy in business school, and consulted in a hospital department.
- Learned and practiced the theories of medical informatics and provided consumer health reference at Eskind Biomedical Library at Vanderbilt University, as part of the Meharry-Vanderbilt Alliance.
- Trained students and faculty to increase their medical research literacy and served as a clinical librarian for the Internal Medicine department at Meharry Medical College.
- Taught medical professionals to perform online research at the New York Academy of Medicine.
- Selected for prestigious fellowship at the National Library of Medicine.
- Spoke at Medical Library Association conferences.
- Maintain a network of healthcare association leaders who serve as my mentors.
