Along the way, I learned more than a few lessons. More recently, Associations Now asked me for three more lessons.
- Pray without ceasing. Be specific, but know that God knows what I need better than I. His answer may not be mine but it will be right.
- Remain open.
- Networking works! But be purposeful. Many people met with me but not all were willing or able to help.
- Humility is a virtue and a gift.
- Thank people for their time, ideas and contacts. And thank them for constructive criticism.
- Take time off to just be. I didn't do this enough.
- Nashville is bigger than I thought.
- There are lots of places with free wifi.
- Starting a consulting practice takes years of market research, relationship- and reputation-building and observation to find the place where my skills and passions meet a particular need.
