Winter of Our Discontent
Introduction
Well, it happened.
Somehow, I managed to win (Queen's Bard) at the 2015 Bardic Champion, thereby ending the "always a bridesmaid, never a bride" narrative I'd been abuilding. (By my count, it was the fourth time I'd made it to finals...no complaints, since as a storyteller, it's much more interesting to almost make it repeatedly) My good friend (Ysemay Sterling) won King's Bard with a sonnet she'd written on the spot, which reminded me that I really need to work on my ability to write quickly and competently; as I've noted elsewhere, I buy into the Sturgeon's Law approach to creative endeavors (see the Shakespeare song). So I've set myself the goal of writing at least one piece every week. This was done on my way to work on the first day back after winning.
Winter's Lament

To the tune of "Upon a Summer's Day"
No favor finds from me
This dam-ned ice and snow
In winter's cold I seek
The warmth of Zephyr's blow.
When blazing hearth fires fail
To keep out winter's chill
We're all dismayed to hear
There's yet more winter still.
The cold doth pierce my bones
And frost is e'er my foe
When will Hibernus rest
Is all I want to know.
It's Proserpina's fault
Pomona's just a twig
She ate that pomegranate
What luck t'were not a fig!
Soon summer shall be here,
And all will then rejoice
In days of warmth and sun
Will all soon raise their voice.
But man is ever bound,
To want what he should lack
In summer's heat and flies
We'll beg for winter back!
