Course Description:The purpose of this course is to develop the basic knowledge and skills important for health literacy. Our students will become health literate, and take personal responsibility for their health and well being by learning to obtain, interpret, and understand basic health information and services in ways that contribute to positive lifestyle changes.The study of these topics will facilitate health literacy in:

Chemical Abuse and Addiction

Healthy Nutritional Habits

Human Sexuality

Mental Health and Wellness

Lifesaving Techniques (including basic skills in CPR and obstructed airway in a conscious and unconscious victim

Essential Standards

The student will:

1. Demonstrate the ability to access valid health information and health promoting products and services.

2. Perform the steps of the Heimlich maneuver and basic skills of adult CPR.
