05-24-09 3rd day hiking

Post date: May 25, 2009 12:3:31 AM

Tman has checked in four times today on his spot 7:51 AM, 11:33 AM, 2:27 PM, 4:32 PM

I got 1 email today from someone who spotted Tman. It is the Swanson Johnston Trail Clearing Crew. They gave him a ride from Minneapolis to Ely and he ate supper with them the night before he started walking and breakfast the morning of his walk and they also sent us the pictures of Tman. Tman meet up with them last night and here is the e-mail I got.

Good afternoon

We saw Tman... He stayed at our camp site on Parent Lake last night as he continues his trek on the Kek.

Conversation last night was light from the exhausted trail clearing crew... But after a good night sleep and the knowledge that our clearing tasks are complete, a more festive group bid him good luck as he packed up and headed out this morning.

Todd's spirits are still high, even recognizing that sometime after midnight he'll be facing wet weather.

He did ask for us to pass on a request... That you call ahead and let them know he should be there late Monday or Tuesday.

It was good to see him out on the trail and see pictures of his adventure so far. He'll have a great story tell!

Sincerely,

The Swanson Johnston Trail Clearing Crew

For those of you interested I did call the Gun Flint Lodge and let them know he'll be there late Monday or Tuesday. The lady I spoke to said that she had seen a package in the mail room for him. I'm glad he got it there becasue mail is slow up there. I also had her attach a message to his box that we are proud of him and love him.

Greg Mackler has made a google map with all Tmans spot check-ins. Here is the e-mail explaining it. The link to it will be on the home page and Greg said he would be updating it for us to watch. Thanks Greg.

I added some comments on this latest Waypoint (You can click on the different Waypoints to see additional info).

Strangely the Kekakabic isn't mapped for this part of GoogleMaps. I just drew the line in a direct linear fashion, but I'm pretty sure the trail meanders around. You can get a good Topographic terrain view by clicking on the Terrain button on the map website. Todd isn't facing any real elevation gains yet...

Clicking on the 'Sattellite' button on the map shows a beautiful high resolution image of where Todd is right now.

That's some serious miles today. He's probably pushing close to ten. We don't know for sure because we're just using direct line of sight (without the Kekakabic showing up in Google) right now between waypoints.

Go Todd!
