Buchanan, Max C. - In the assault at Cantlgny France, May 28-31, 1918. (Residence Boston, Mass. Born Cabot, Vt.) General Orders No 99, War Dept. 1918. Second lieutenant, 28th Infantry, 2nd Division. He brilliantly led his platoon in the assault at Cantigny, France, reached his objective, consolidated his position successfully under heavy fire, continually walked up and down his line to instruct and encourage his men, until he was killed by an enemy shell. Posthumously awarded. Medal presented to father W. H. Buchanan.
