The Main Street building is open by appointment or by chance if you see the OPEN flag out front. We welcome visitors, researchers & school class groups to learn more about our town's past. If you have letters, diaries, and items from the past, please consider donating them.

Cabot Historical Society, Inc. (CHS) is an independent, nonprofit, membership corporation. Its activities are governed by members in good standing and their elected officers.
CHS accepts gifts and grants. CHS received donations from Cabot Creamery Cooperative that were passed through CCA. CHS received direct support from the Vermont Humanities and from individuals.

Purposes of Cabot Historical Society
To promote respect and love for the history of Cabot, Vermont. To aid its discovery, preservation, and study. We:
1. Maintain and operate two museums with items of scholarly and aesthetic interest, related to Cabot's past.
2. Study genealogy of early settlers and prominent citizens.
3. Study and protect from harm local cemeteries, monuments, historic sites, and archaeology.
4. Help preserve historic Cabot buildings, by research, helping owners, or purchase and restoration.
5. Record and preserve documents, items, and memories of Cabot's past.
6. Publish items about Cabot's history.
The Executive Board of the Cabot Historical Society approved this revision of by-laws; approved by the membership at the May 26, 2019 annual meeting.
By-Laws of the Cabot Historical Society (Revised, May 26, 2019)
1. The name shall be the Cabot Historical Society.
2. The elected officers shall be a president, vice-president, secretary and treasurer, (hereafter called “the executive board”) all to be elected for one-year terms at the annual meeting.
3. Dues of $10.00 per year will be payable July 1st. A lifetime membership may be purchased for a one-time fee of $50.00, in lieu of annual dues.
4. One meeting shall be held each year, in spring, at a time and place specified by the executive board. Other meetings may be called during the year as the executive board deems appropriate or if requested by at least 25 percent of the members.
5. Anything that has been loaned to the Society for display or study shall not be taken from the historical rooms except (1) by the owner of said item upon notification to the president or other member of the executive board, or (2) by a member of the executive board with the consent of the owner. Items whose ownership is not known shall be deemed to be property of the Society.
6. No one shall be admitted to the historical rooms unless accompanied by a member of the executive board. The executive board may designate one or more persons to act on their behalf.
7. The historical rooms shall be opened during: the Cabot July 4th celebration. Other days and hours of opening will be set by the executive board. Either historical building (Main St. or West Hill School) may be opened with a request to a member of the executive board for an appointment, between May and October.
8. The executive board is authorized to spend up to $500 over the total amount of the budget approved at each annual meeting. Line item budgets may be adjusted as needed as long as the total approved budget plus $500 is not exceeded. To change the total amount of the annual budget, a special meeting and vote of the members shall be called by the executive board.
