The ladies of our Church as well as non-adherents, are part of a group that meets regularly on Wednesdays starting at 11:00 a.m. to enjoy fellowship, worship God and participate in what has become a very important part of the congregation. They are called the Prayer Shawl Group and they were formed in 2006 with only nine members.
Today, they number approximately 25. They knit or crochet shawls, attach a prayer to the shawl and then present it to someone in need, an elderly person or anyone who needs the comfort of knowing that someone else cares. Senior’s Homes, shut-ins and cancer patients in Newfoundland and Labrador, other parts of Canada and the United States have received these comforting shawls. In 2012-13, they knit/crocheted 150 items - blankets, caps, shawls, lap rugs, etc. - and presented them to the Janeway Children’s Hospital.
They also present a shawl to newly christened babies at our Church.
