THE GATHERING

As we prepare to worship on this, the darkest day in history, may our mind be still and our heart be open to the power, horror, and hope of God’s redeeming

action on the cross.

WE GATHER IN-PERSON

Greetings and Announcements

Procession of the Light, Word and World

Introit “Go To Dark Gethsemane”   VU # 133

Opening Prayer (Responsive)

Leader: God of Light, God of Shadow, in our time together today, keep us aware of your presence in the darkness.

All: Help us to see meaning in this terrible story, and keep the fire of hope alive in our hearts.

Leader: This we pray in the name of the man from Nazareth,

All: the one who lived with a great Passion for your Way, the one whose death is nigh,  the one who taught his friends to pray saying:  Our Father, which art in heaven….

Theme Conversation

Echo Prayer

Sing “Halle, Halle, Halle”

Opening Hymn “Beneath the Cross of Jesus”   VU # 135

Prayer of Confession  (Responsive)

Leader: We confess to You, our Lord and Savior,

that we have betrayed and denied You,

forgotten and doubted You.

All: When our faith is tested, we wonder where You are.

Leader: When we see injustice in the world, we often stand by, we turn our backs, we ignore the cries of others.

All: We confess that again and again we deny You and betray You with our silence when we fail to proclaim Your Good News,

Leader: when we fail to live out Your teachings and love our neighbor as ourselves.

All: Forgive us, O God, and help us to truly repent.

Leader: Help us to remember Your sacrifice,

Your love, and to know Your forgiveness.

All: In the name of the One who lived,

who was crucified,

and who lives again,

Jesus the Messiah,

we pray. Amen.
