Minister’s Message
“For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven: a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;”
Ecclesiastes 3: 1-2, 4
It always takes a day like this with the rain pelting down and the warm cozy quietness of the house to get writing projects done.
Lately, that peace and quiet explodes into the frenetic barks of our newest family member, Felix, who takes his protection duties incredibly seriously. Today, he is protecting me from the potential dangers of the dishwasher.
Each new sound brings new lessons for my precious boy. The cats still high-tail it to the safety of the bedroom where they can retreat to the safety of higher ground, but they too are learning to adapt and rebuild the family with Felix.
Isn’t it strange how grief works? I miss Roxie everyday and often several times a day, but that rawness and vulnerability that broke my heart in sadness has also expanded it to make space to love and welcome Felix.
Roxie was mine, but even more she was ours - the church, community and beyond. So many messages and stories about how Roxie touched lives came from around the world. Lynda led a beautiful tribute for her that helped settle my soul.
From so many folks, who saw how broken-hearted I was and who grieve with me, the main question had been “Will we get another church dog?” I always responded that “God gave me Roxie when we both needed each other and God will give me another.”
Little did I know that there was a six year old Sheltie who needed to be re-homed just waiting for me around the corner. I never dreamed that God would present the right dog for me, and us, so soon and yet, Felix joined the family on October 1st.
Roxie set a high standard for this new fellow, but Felix is finding his own way into the ministry of this place. As we all do.
In the seasons of life, we all re-evaluate our agendas and reflect on our priorities. We search for our renewed place and purpose - a safe landing where we will be loved and welcomed unconditionally and encouraged to share our gifts in meaningful ways.
I think you’ll find that here as you see in this newsletter, the many ways this church lives through all the seasons under heaven. I have and I am grateful for it everyday.
Felix brings the gift of joy as he spins and sings and dances. Jesus, the Lord of the Dance, invites us to learn new steps and join in.
Let’s dance!
Rev. Steph

The items have been shared between Anthony Paddon Elementary and Heritage Collegiate. Thank you for supporting this important outreach of our church!

The United Church of Canada
Celebrates 100 years in 2025
The United Church of Canada is a community of hope, a vibrant and vital church with both purpose and vision. We live in a time of rapid change in religious life, great inequities between peoples, and collective harm to our earth community. As church, we have been complicit in injustice. And yet we have this hope. We believe we continue to be called to witness in love and justice to the liberating, healing Christ risen in this place and time. Together, we strive towards repentance, repair, and right relations with all peoples and the planet. Our call and vision statement speaks to how we boldly embody the Christian story in this time, filled with the certainty of resurrection and hope for new life.
Living purposefully into this call and vision anticipates becoming what Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and others called the Beloved Community—the ever inbreaking, ever transforming, ever reconciling realm of God, realized in our time.
Call The United Church of Canada Call reflects the core of our
purpose, sharing who we seek to be in “such a time as this” (Esther 4:14).
Deep Spirituality - Bold Discipleship - Daring Justice
Vision
“The United Church of Canada vision reflects what the church aspires to be over a 5- to 10-year span. Called by God, as disciples of Jesus, The United Church of Canada seeks to be a bold, connected, evolving church of diverse, courageous, hope-filled communities united in deep spirituality, inspiring worship, and daring justice.
