10.8. Ethel Caroline Howe b 1877 m 1905 Robert Fabian Evans b 1877 1dau. They are thought to have separated. Their only issue was Elizabeth M Evans (Betty). She didn’t marry but for many years before his death, shared a flat in Chelsea with Eric Taylor (see obituary) who held several distinguished positions in the House of Commons and wrote a standard text book “The House of Commons at Work”. He was also Presiding Bishop of the Liberal Catholic Church. He was seriously afflicted by epilepsy.
Ethel and Robert Evans lived near Chalfont. He was a stockbroker who is thought to have lost all his money and became a taxi driver. Ethel became clerk of works or similar to Edwin Forbes (architect of most of Nightingales Lane, Chalfont St Giles) and also women's land army in the 2nd WW.) In old age she lived at The Longlow Club, Chesham Bois - an old peoples home.
11.1. Elizabeth "Betty" Mary Evans b 1905
Betty Evans worked as a secretary for Harding and Munby for a time and NCCL – [now Liberty]. Her uncle T.D.F Evans who was a doctor in Birmingham (see later) left her a life interest in his substantial residuary estate which is why she eventually became financially independent. (The capital of that trust on her death went to various charities - all or most Birmingham based and maybe in some part absorbed into the NHS. She was related to the Phelps' (Peggy Robinson's father or mother and therefore to the Forbes'). There was a suggestion that we also were much more distantly related to them (Evans or so forth, via the Chance's). I think that in the distant past, the Evans’ and maybe thus also the Forbes were more distantly connected in the Chance (Sargant) lineage – which maybe shows up in the Chance book.

EVANS, Thomas David Fabian MRCS d.1938 age 87. His collection, which he never exhibited, was bequeathed to the Birmingham City Museum and Art Gallery. It comprises some 44,000 stamps on 1981 pages. A short guide to it was compiled by FE Wilson. The Great Britain section is the most important and includes a mint copy of the Edward VII 10/- I.R. Official. The foreign section contains the Saxony 1850 3pf on complete wrapper, and the USA Columbian Exposition 4c deep blue, error of colour. This collection is considered by some to be the best general one in public ownership, other than the Tapling Collection.
John Howe owned a plaster works after whom a locomotive in the Ribble Steam Railway was names. It appears to be still running according to this link
Ward Connection
Samuel Ward b 1815 Dublin d (weak evidence)1880 Dublin, m 1842 Dublin, Elizabeth Mangan or Maugham. He became a Master Mariner in 1869. He was a son of Henry and Frances Ward.
Evidence from the 1871 census in Glasgow, Scotland sounds as if he was there at that time with Elizabeth, his wife, aged 55, dau Frances, aged 27 and son Samuel, aged 15. Their 2nd dau (see Howe connection) was Elizabeth "Bessie" Ward who married Charles John Howe (1847-1903)
