Evaluating my experience creating videos, I came to the conclusion that it was useful to share. Already from the videos that I posted in the VIDEO section (chronology saved), it is clear that not everything is so simple. How to choose light, where to place the camera and what needs to be done to stabilize the object (sheet of paper)? These are just the most obvious questions to which I was forced to devote a significant part of my time. And considering that time was and is the main expenditure part of my budget, I am more than satisfied with the result...

In order to get a digestible result when creating a “hand drawing” video, the following conditions must be met:

1. Camera. Its quality is not the main condition for success. But availability is the main condition. I have a Canon HD, although shooting with a 3 megapixel cell phone camera is quite acceptable. The main thing is to secure it correctly above the drawing.

2. Tripod. A tripod on which the camera will be mounted. The point from which the video will be recorded depends on the device. It seems to me that the most effective camera positions are those that imitate the artist's gaze. For this purpose I used an old tripod and a movable stem with a lead pipe counterweight.

The result is a stable bracket on the camera, attached to a counterweight, allowing it to be mounted at the desired angle. And you can arbitrarily change the angle and position of the camera in all planes.

After a short workout, you stop noticing the camera and nothing interferes with your work.

3. Lighting. Lighting is an important element of a successful result. It would seem that there is nothing better than natural light. But, I was convinced that this is not so. It’s very unpleasant when a seemingly perfect video after processing (2-3 times faster) begins to noticeably fade and even change color. So you can’t do without artificial light.

I use two 100W household floodlights

4. Work table. At the first stage, I did not attach importance to the surface on which the sheet of paper is located. I even drew it on a piece of plexiglass. But in accelerated mode, the slightest movement causes noticeable jerks in the entire image. Luckily, I had a solid pine tabletop on hand.

5. Tool. It would be stupid not to mention the most important thing - the tool.

I can't talk about the collet pencil as the main drawing tool. You can draw with a simple pencil, chalk and charcoal.
