More and more work is offered and fulfilled as volunteer work. Is this a good sign? With large numbers of unemployed looking for a job? Being pushed to take whatever jobs comes their way, I wonder! I occasionally volunteer and in Australia I have volunteered to do volunteer work for which others are paid.
Did I take a job? Yes and No: I got paid in a place to sleep and eat. They didn’t have money to pay, because they were rebuilding the lodges. Nowadays I see positions as a bus driver that are filled as volunteers. These are often lines that are not profitable and would otherwise not be driven, but still a job that someone could fill, because they are normal hours that are run on the bus. If society even offer those jobs as volunteer work, it might be time to separate money and job. Everyone on a basic income and then all become volunteers. Enough voluntary work for everyone and very diverse. I would do it like this!
I think everybody got free money with COVID-19-Mesures with NOW, TOZO, etc. I don’t know if the free money is still a good idea, because after more than a year most people still don’t do what they want and are bothering other people. The theory that people would motivate themselves to do the work that is needed isn’t there in practice! So bye bye basic income, I think!
