Language was one of the things I wasn’t good at in High school, but I love to travel. So I decided to take a TEFL course before my well earned in between pension to the Pacific as a digital nomad. With the TEFL I would be able to maybe take on volunteer work, swap skills or a job on my journey in the Pacific.
I took the basic TEFL course and specialized in:
Grammar Awareness
Business English
One-On-One Teaching
Teaching With Limited Resources
Audio & Video Teaching.
With this certificate I am allowed to teach English as a second language to foreigners. Although I didn’t use what I learned to teach English it had one big benefit I was able to understand even the most remote accent after a few hours. It also meant I could participate in discussions about politics, life and for most understand the typical Australian jokes. The British English one and US ones I already understood by reading books and plays and watching the popular British and American Series.
My next goal with languages is getting French and Spanish at this level. I am doing my best with Drops, Duolingo, reading and working in these languages.
