Papiamento Is Spoken On 3 Islands

Papiamento is the language of the island I was born on. The language is spoken on the 3 ABC islands:

• Aruba

• Bonaire 

• Curaçao. 

They all have their own dialect in Papiamento and their are two grammar ways to write things. One I think is complicated and the other one I prefer. 

The Origin Of The Papiamento

There are a lot of tales about the origin, but what I now is that a lot of words in Papiamento are also used in Spanish, Portugues, Dutch and some African languages. There is even an African island on which I think they speak almost the same language, because I sometime understand them partially and then get confused by some words. I asked them what they were speaking and it is a different language.

How I Learned Papiamento

I learned the language at home. Reading and writing in this language I learned from newspapers and some books in Papiamento. There are a lot of ways to write Papiamento, Papiamentu and Papiaments. It is one of the two official languages of Curaçao. The other one is Dutch.

Nowadays

Nowadays most kids learn both languages at school and some even have to do papers and exams in both languages.  I only had papers and exams in Dutch.
