Bits &Pieces GNN ‘62

Issue #7, May 2009 ~ November 2009

From Pam Wiener Beck

Don't remember where I left off. Starting NOW. Retiring from my main gig of 38 years as an administrator at a CUNY college early July. Yay. I will continue with my small private practice as a psychologist. The joy I get from being with my 3 yr old grandson is unbelievable---his enthusiasm, his energy, his curiosity and joy is boundless. But then the rest of you grandparents know that. I've sold a number of my paintings; and worked as a volunteer at the Whitney for a year. Thought I wanted to be a docent; but after assessing the training and commitment decided I can volunteer my time at museums in other ways. Looking forward to connecting soon.

I am anticipating emeritus status in January 2010 after 38 amazing years with Mary Kay Inc. And, yes, I have been driving the famous pink Cadillac since 1974.

Will probably take a year off to examine what I will do with the rest of my life. I, too, feel I am just getting started. Maybe we will just increase the lengths of our travel trips. An African Photo Safari is still on my 'to do' list.

… we're now of an age where some of us may be care-givers for parents with Alzheimer's disease or other form of dementia. I'm in a support group for such people here in Northern Virginia. As a part of that, I started a blog on articles of interest or use to care-givers. It's at http://alzdem.blogspot.com/

There were a few more wonderful news items, but we are all reeling from the recent passing of Chuck, Michael (Mickey) and Linda. I am in New York now and cannot sift through the email. I will find the news for the next Bits&Pieces. In the interim, the following list contains email addresses and names (where I could match) of addresses that “bounce” when I send out class mail. If you can help me to update, I’d really appreciate it.

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving. All of us have so much to be thankful for. In addition, we can reflect on the lives of our classmates who are no longer with us and be thankful for the memories we have of them.

Wishing all of you and your families a most wonderful and joyous Thanksgiving.
