The xten client is good for Microsoft Windows but it still isn't perfect. I found that often you need to exit the phone completely (note that until it is exited from the system tray it is still active) - then restart the phone software and let it go through the "Detecting firewall - logging in" stage again. Once the phone has logged in successfully then it appears stable and stays online and active for as long as I've been testing. Try this if you're not getting results as it often solves problems.
When you are connected to your provider, the x-lite phone should say "Logged in, please enter number" - You should then be able to make and receive calls as per normal.
