Louise Nevelson

 

Louise Nevelson was born in Ukraine in the year 1899.  She was known as an abstract expressionist.  She uses found objects (garbage) and groups them visually in boxes. She says, “When you put together things that other people have thrown out, you’re really bringing things to life again.”  Her family migrated to the U.S. in 1909, where they lived in Maine.  She later moved to New York.  She is known for her flamboyant clothes and fake eye lashes.  She painted her assemblages monochromatic colors.  She died in N.Y. in 1988.
