Lector the Electron : Who Shocked Liberty Valence

Lector was an electron. Lector spent every day buzzing around with his brother Liberty in the same circle of friends, playing laughing, telling stories with friends in their neighborhood.

Lector enjoyed his older brother Liberty. He looked up to him. He wanted to be just like him when he grew up. They did everything together. They played board games. They went skateboarding, they went swimming, they even went to the store. Lector especially liked it when they went to the store. Liberty always bought Lector something. Sometimes he bought him candy. Lector liked the candy but most of all, it made Lector feel good when his big brother looked after him. Sometimes Lector would get picked on by the bullies in his neighborhood. But Liberty was always there to protect Lector.

Their circle of friends would meet them at the street corner and laugh and play. Lector couldn’t be happier.

Ms. Valence, Lector’s mom, would come home and sit outside their home and watch the neighborhood children play.

“Liberty son, you’ve got too much potential to be playing. You should be working” rang from Lector’s mom. “If you want to date, you're going to need to get a job."

So, Lector’s brother Liberty got a job. Lector would see his brother leave for work and wonder if he could go with him. “Sorry little dude, but I’ve got to go solo.” Liberty frowned as he left home.

Lector didn’t understand. There was something new about Liberty. He didn’t want to play like he use to. He didn’t take Lector to the store anymore. Lector didn’t understand why Liberty had changed. His older brother didn’t even look the same. He looked different. He smelled different. Lector didn’t like these changes. And he didn’t like the new circle of friends Liberty had. Some of them were girls. Liberty talked strange around them. He acted strange, too.

Lector missed having Liberty to play with. Lector felt lonely.

One day, Lector told his mother “ I’m bored; I got no one to play with. I’m mad at Liberty.” Lector’s mother understood why Lector was mad. Lector no longer played with Liberty.

“You know, Lector, your brother got zapped by a something very powerful. You see, God has a plan for everyone; even you. Liberty fell in love with someone. He doesn’t know it yet, but what Liberty felt in his heart was liked getting zapped by a bolt of lightning”.

Lector’s eyes grew wide. Lector had seen lighting. He could imagine the loud clap of thunder in his head. Lector thought what a terrible thing. Lector’s Mom saw Lector shiver at the thought of lighting.

Lector’s Mom gave him a hug and explained. “ Oh honey, don’t be scared. What I meant to say is Liberty is very excited right now. He changing into a Man. He’s maturing into something different. Change is part of Gods plan. Liberty is discovering his potential. His attraction to someone will lead him into his potential, which will provide for Gods work. You should be happy for him”.

But Lector didn’t feel happy. “ I know it’s hard for you to understand. But your growing up too. Someday, you’ll be attracted to your potential. Change is what’s going to happen to you. Change is what God does best.”

Lector thought about what his mother said. Lector did notice Liberty was smiling a lot lately. It made Lector feel good inside to see his brother smile. He liked Liberty's smile.
