Apollo 11 was the first manned mission to land on the Moon. The first steps by humans on another planetary body were taken by Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin on July 20, 1969 in the lunar module Eagle . The third astronaut of the team Michael Collins orbits in the command module Columbia.
G.I. jOE TALKING ASTRONAUT - 1969 to 1970
In the mid-1960's Hasbro created an Astronaut outfit and Mercury space capsule. However it was not until 1969 that Hasbro created the talking Astronaut (with various painted hair colours) as part of the "Adventures of G.I. jOE". There was only a Caucasian version, no African American or Asian version of the talking Astronaut.

In 1969, two red top sets were made for the Talking Astronaut , "Hidden Missile Discovery" and "Spacewalk Mystery" <images to follow>
In 1970 The "Spacewalk Mystery" (with the Mercury spacecraft ) set included updated art work from the 1969 red top version of this box set.
A blonde flocked hair Astronaut that was included in the set was a non-talker and would sometimes be substituted with the brown flocked hair Man of Action.
The G.I. jOE TALKING ASTRONAUT was featured on the cover of the 1970s G.I. jOE Adventure Team membership Club magazine .
Some of the earlier versions of the 1970 G.I. jOE Talking Astronaut came with tall white laced boots . Later versions had the white "waffle" space boots.

My youngest brother, owned a 1970 Adventure Team G.I. jOE TALKING ASTRONAUT... until tragedy struck. Astronaut G.I. jOE fell down a "moon crater" severing his neck.
We kids did not know how to fix him, so our Mom put him out for garbage. Little did we know that Hasbro would not issue another talking Astronaut after 1970, so he was not replaceable.
Of course, today, I know it would have been an easy fix. I would have unscrewed the back and have simply purchased a replacement talker neck, popped on the head, closed him up and he would have been good as new !
A few sets were created for the Adventure Team GI jOE Astronaut in the 1970s, such as the "Hidden Missile Discovery " and the "Flying Space Adventure" (FSA)
