Auck are huge beasts that travel in small herds of two to six, typically, though some juvenile males may be found alone, searching for a herd. All auck have tusks used to gore predators with, and the males grow a single, massive horn they use in fights with other males and, rarely, to attack threats.
When threatened, a male auck will bellow and paw the earth, waving its horn in a figure eight, before charging the threat with a bleating bellow. Should the threat survive this charge, they may try to bludgeon it to the ground with their horn so they can gore with their tusks.
Bodop are short, burly beasts with coarse fur, cloven feet, and a humped back. The males have a rack of six horns of glossy, segmented black, which they use for defending herds against predators and rival males.
Known as excellent climbers, they tend to roam terrain to their advantage, traveling either as an alpha male with a small herd of females or packs of jouvenile males.
When threatened, they become aggressive and will attempt to drive predators to fall to their deaths.
Legend tells that the first bodop were earth spirits jealous of the wind, seeking the highest places where they could touch the sky. It is said they know many secrets, for they see much from their high places.
A Large, legendary beast, an armor-plated, hulking version of the bodop.
Legend tells that the first bodop were earth spirits jealous of the wind, seeking the highest places where they could touch the sky. It is said they know many secrets, for they see much from their high places.
Elder beasts are rumored to be the first of their kind, as old as Urnoth, immortal. When their blood touches the earth, lush grasses and a variety of blooming flowers grow in such places.
Croah are very rare, solitary scavengers said to have migrated to Urnoth from the outworld to the south. Small, winged creatures, they are said to able to smell corpses over distances a tribemember would take days to run across. They have lifespans rivaling that of humans and are said to be quite cunning for a beast.
Most Urnothi rarely ever see a croah, and most sightings are due to beastkin, those rare urnothi born with the gift to commune with animals. It is said that croah seek out and bond with such folk. Given their rarity and the rumors that many beastkin bond with croah at an early age, many believe such rumors.
To see a croah circling east to north is considered a very bad omen, one that portends the imminent death of a loved one.
Where a grunja roams, it fears nothing, for this beast is huge, heavily armored and well armed. Though its appetite is vast, the grunja can eat nearly any plant or animal it can catch, lying in wait to pounce and fell its prey with a single slash of its foreclaws.
So fearsome is its strike, it has cloven armored warriors in two. Wise urnothi try to avoid any territory that is home to a grunja.
Grunja droppings are sometimes harvested for nourishment or mixed with other food to act as a preservative: though it has a foul odor and taste, it can delay spoiling and sate hunger.
Jotuhn are rare, solitary beasts, dangerous to hunt, yet highly prized by the urnothi. Said to be spirits cursed for their greed and forced to wear flesh and walk upon the face of Urnoth, the quills upon their head and back are harder than bone. Many urnothi weapons are fashioned from these quills.
Large beasts, few creatures can survive the charge of a jotuhn, yet they will not approach fire, which they fear. They are hunted by surrounding warriors with torches, trapping them to scream and thrash at those that injure it while others push in to strike an unprotected flank. Many warriors have died to bring jotuhn quills back to their tribe.
One of the fastest creatures on land, these beasts prowl the wastelands and deserts of Urnoth. Four legs, a lean but muscular body, and a long tail ensure few creatures can escape. Its jaws, hinged at the neck, split the head into two vice-like jaws of considerble strength, and a second set of arms tipped in claws bear a paralitic poison used against stubborn prey.
Legend tells that the first kaklu were wind spirits who committed a terrible sin, stripped from the sky to be trapped on the ground. It is said they fear enclosed spaces and will not venture into confining places, seeking to keep the sky as much around them as possible.
Kulon are one of the herd animals of Urnoth that have been bred by the urnothi for domestication: for the bittersweet milk the females produce, their ability to carry three times more weight than a warrior and, in times of need, the bitter/tough nourishment their meat provides.
Tall enough at the shoulder to reach the chest of a human, kulon are also valued for their sense of smell. Some hunters train them to track by scent, though the creatures are skittish around predators.
Wild kulon are proud creatures, but those raised by people are placid and seek safety around the dwellings of their masters.
Small, vicious creatures, reypa are scavengers and opportunistic feeders, relying on their long sharp claws to slice apart flesh and bone-studded hide to protect them from predators. Cowardly creatures, they wont attack larger prey unless it seems vulnerable and alone. If the reypas have sufficient numbers, they will swarm such prey to bleed it still and feed frantically before a larger, more powerful predator comes along to claim their prize.
The speartooth is a fearsome predator rarely seen by urnothi. A Large feline, typically with dark skin with golden stripes, they have oversized paws with retractable claws that are black and glossy. Their name comes from their spear-like fangs.
According to legend, speartooth were once fire spirits who resented the power water spirits held over them, forsaking their nature to be free of the dominion such spirits held over them. It is said that, in doing so, they became susceptible to the flame, and view the urnothi mastery of fire as an insult.
A Huge, legendary beast, a nightmarish version of the speartooth. Its eyes glow as if a fire burns within them, and it has a bearing of savage hunger. Unlike the speartooth, this beast has protective bonespurs sprouting along its forelimbs and shoulders, and the twin fangs sprouting from its upper jaw are much longer in relation to its lesser kin.

It is said that, in doing so, they became susceptible to the flame, and view the urnothi mastery of fire as an insult.
These little creatures live along the banks of rivers and lakes. Amphibious creatures, they hunt frogs, lizards, and fish with a tongue twice as long as their bodies, coated in a paralytic toxin.
Wisdoms sometimes harvest this toxin to use in their alchemy to create healing salves.
